Pfeiffer-Janes House Update
Thanks to an Arkansas Natural and Cultural
Resources Council Grant, built-in and
half round copper gutters are installed on the
Pfeiffer-Janes House as they were in the
1930s. Front porch and second floor porch gutters are not visible as they are built in the roof. All
other areas have half-round gutters painted to match the house. Porch floors and railings are repaired,
and the entire house has a new coat of paint. Thankfully, the new gutters will help protect
the house from water runoff damage.
Although we were closed to public tours May 22 - June 24 for construction, we had two
weeks of Writers’ Retreat, one week of Professional Development Workshops and a Red Hat
Tea in the Educational Center and two weddings on the lawn during that time.
Celebration of Quilting Great Success
More than 100 quilts were exhibited in the Pfeiffer-Janes House and Hemingway Barn Studio
for the Eighth Annual Celebration of Quilting, Saturday, May 19. The date of the event was
moved from September to coincide with Piggott’s Annual Super Cruse & Rod Run, and it was very well received. Visitors’ Choice Certificates
were presented in seven categories. The annual Celebration of Quilting will be on the third
Saturday of May each year during Piggott’s Super Cruise weekend, so mark your calendars.
A Face in the Crowd 50th Anniversary Celebration
On September 15 the City of Piggott and the ASU Alumni Association sponsored the 50th Anniversary

guest of honor, along with noted film critic Dr. Foster Hirsch, author of 16 books about movies.
HPMEC and ASU Alumni Association jointly sponsored a brunch for Ms. Neal, Dr. Hirsch, special
guests and the event committee to begin the celebration.
