Pfeiffer Dollars Program HPMEC and community merchants are working together on a promotional plan during October to increase visitors’ dollars spent in Piggott. The Pfeiffer Dollars idea came from the story that, during the Great Depression, Paul M. Pfeiffer assisted those down on their luck by providing coupons that had to be spent exclusively in Piggott businesses. In this same spirit, today’s visitors to Piggott can benefit from the Pfeiffer Dollars promotional plan in one of two ways. |

Janes Collection Gift Through a generous gift from Rosemary Janes and funds from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council, we are pleased to announce that most of the Janes Collection has been added to the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum permanent collection. The Janes Collection of more than 200 items original to the Pfeiffer-Janes House and barn-studio was placed on long-term loan in 1998. The collection of furnishings, accessories and books was acquired in 1950 by the Tom and Beatrice Janes family with the purchase of the house and barn after the death of Mary Pfeiffer. We are very grateful to the Janes Family, including the late Mrs. Beatrice Janes whose interest in the property being authentically restored led her daughter, Rosemary, to place the collection in the care of HPMEC. It is quite unusual for an historic house to have original furnishings, and we extend our thanks and appreciation to Rosemary Janes for making it possible to add the Janes Collection to the permanent collection in the Pfeiffer-Janes House and Hemingway Barn-Studio. |

Memorial Established The 19% Club, a group of writers in Jonesboro, established the Jon Warren Coleman Memorial with a gift of $100 and 56 paperback books. “Escapism being a theme of most Southern writing, Jon Warren Coleman explored the morality and struggle of men and women who chose to exist in the fields and gravel and muddy creeks of the South that were more easily forgotten, or, at best, an afterthought, in the contemporary references of the South drawn from popular fiction and motion pictures. Mr. Coleman, while rooted in the Delta, recognized that geography and the human condition are intertwined, regardless of location.” (The 19% Club) The late Mr. Jon Warren Coleman, Jonesboro, Arkansas, was a participant in the 2007 Hemingway-Pfeiffer Creative Writers’ Retreat for Adults. Financial contributions to the Jon Warren Coleman Memorial or HPMEC can be made by mailing your check to HPMEC, 1021 West Cherry Street, Piggott, AR 72454. |

First Option: Visitors to the museum will receive one Pfeiffer Dollar for each dollar of paid admission. They can apply one Pfeiffer Dollar toward each $10 worth of purchases from participating businesses listed on the back of the dollar. Second Option: Those who shop in downtown stores prior to coming to the museum can show receipts from participating Piggott merchants and receive a $1 credit off their admission for each $10 worth of purchases. A Pfeiffer Dollar window decal identifies the twenty-six participating merchants, and a complimentary Piggott City Map shows all Piggott businesses. We are hopeful that this plan will stay in place for some time. HPMEC and Piggott merchants will review participation to consider continuing the Pfeiffer Dollar promotion. |
